Monette, welcome.

When Michelle asked me to guest blog, I jumped at the chance, then had second thoughts. What should I write about? My newest book, Prime Obsession, is the obvious choice, but from what angle? So, I told Michelle “yes” and said I would talk about my inspiration, well, inspirations, for writing my first scifi romance.
Star Trek, the original television show, not the movies or later incarnations, was my first inspiration. Every Thursday night I was glued to the television, watching Captain Kirk with his bad hair days and Spock of the pointy ears and the elevated eyebrow thing he did. My Latin and Physics homework were shoved to the side as I traveled the universe with the star ship Enterprise. All my day dreams starred me as the woman who captured Spock’s heart and sparked his buried human emotions.
Then one hot summer man walked on the moon. I stayed up all night watching Armstrong, an Ohio boy from Wapokaneta where I had relatives. I walked on that moon with Neil, relating to him because I knew where he grew up. His background was no different than mine, and I realized that any little Midwestern boy or girl could grow up and go into outer space. I could be that astronaut.
As usual life intruded, I changed from a science major at Purdue and majored in English and math. My creative writing instructor encouraged me, but I had a husband to put through medical school – so all my dreams, all my creativity was buried under the more pragmatic.
Many years later, after becoming a lawyer, then a mother, I began to write. I wrote romantic suspense, then paranormal romantic suspense, but no scifi. Then I read Linnea Sinclair’s books and decided I wanted to be her when I grew up. She is my idol – - and my friend. Her books revitalized my interest in everything science fiction and the fact that her heroes and heroines could have romance with their adventures was just the icing on the cake.
Prime Obsession is dedicated due to my friend Linnea for inspiring me to dig deeply into my scifi geekdom.

Great post. Prime Obsession sounds good. Nice cover.
Congrats on your new sci-fi release. It really sounds and looks like a great read. I enjoy sci-fi books with the romance added, got to have romance:)
Crystal GB: I love the cover also. April did a fantastic job.
I’m very impressed with your journey through life. I’m glad that your dreams and creativity finally were uncovered to share with us readers. T.
Judy Cox: Thanks for stopping by.
T. Hayes: Thank you. Some days I can’t even believe all the stuff I’ve done.
Hi Monette,
It’s so true that we can all be inspired to do things we never thought possible. I loved your story about watching the moon walk.
Minx Malone: I still get chills even thinking about that summer and staying up all night and watching the moon walk.
I never watched much of the original Star Trek, largely due to the fact that it was before my time. I did watch the later incarnations though. Congratulations on your book release!
Deidre
Deidre: Okay, make me feel old. :) LOL I like Jean Luc Picard in the newer incarnations of Star Trek.
Thanks
I like a lot “Star trek” and loved “The case of virtuous vampire” (another one, please?), so I’m delighted to hear about this book (I apologize for my English, I’m Spanish)
Good afternoon, Monette.
What is your opinion on book trailers? Do you think they help in book sales?
Thanks,
Tracey D
Marisa: Yes, there will be another Abbie and Luc book. The Deadly Seance is half-written.
Tracey D: I like book trailers. I think the jury is still out as to whether they are effective marketing tools or not.
The book sounds and looks awesome! I was wondering if as an author you had any say in the cover art?
lilazncutie1215@yahoo.com
Jeanette Juan: Yes, I filled out a questionnaire, telling the cover artist what I wanted and didn’t want on my covers. if you will note, most of my covers are blue or dark colors. Moody. I also helped find the stock photos for the cover figures.
Was there a particular episode of Star Trek that you think of to this day? I remember the one with these creatures that stuck to the walls and pulsed. If they landed on you, you died. Scared the bejeebers out of me. (I am probably 10 years younger than you if you were taking latin and physics.)
Congrats on the new release/series!
Anne: I liked The Trouble with Tribbles episode. I wanted a Tribble — still do.
Hey everyone! I’m so glad to see so many of you dropping by and commenting. Monette is having some computer issues, but she’s definitely going to swing by the respond to your questions and comments — so keep them coming!
I love anything vampire, hope this is a good one
I really enjoyed reading your blog…I’m now totally curious as to in what context you’ve based your story using inspiration from Star Trek. To be honest, Star Trek was something that I never really was into…I mean by the time I was old enough to watch it…The popularity of the show had waned off…I gotta say that I loved Spock though…and trust me…I still wish that scientists would just develop a Teleportation device already!!! I mean c’mon…How long before we get to say “Beam me up, Scotty!”
Sorry I digress…but seriously with all the technology we have flying around…you’d think that this would be of some interest to at least a couple of scientists
Anyhoo, if your book was turned into a movie (How cool would that be first of all!!!) Who do you see playing the leads???
Happy Reading!!!

Sally: Virtuous Vampire is a paranormal mystery and the vampire of the title is the client of Abbie, a lawyer who happens to be a witch, and Luc, a shape-shifter private detective. Abbie and Luc will have other adventures. The vampire carries over as he has a relatonship with Abbie’s mother.
Anne Shah Hoque: I did not use anything in particular from Star Trek. The TV show was instigated my interest in all things scifi. As for who would be in the movie? Wulf is either Hugh Jackman or Jason Patric. Mel would be a Megan Fox-like actress, but older.
Congrats on the release of Prime obsession and thats one hot cover on that book.

I grew up with Star Trek the Next Generation. I’m a Jean-Luc Picard fan.
And I think the sexiest Spock so far is Zach Quinto. Me-Ow!
And I agree: FANTASTIC cover Monette! Cover artist extraordinaire April Martinez did it.
Stacey Smith: Yep, it is a hot cover. April even put the gemate markings on their bodies — although you need to see the cover in a larger version (I have it as my desk top wallpaper) to notice them.
Great cover. Enter me in the contest please!
The cover was so very hot. Could you please enter me in the contest.
